The Indiana Pacers…A Solid Team

In 1967, the Indiana Pacers were created. They became part of the American Basketball Association, and later joined the National Basketball Association as part of the merger between the two leagues in 1976.

As part of the ABA, the Pacers were the most successful team in the league, winning three championships and appearing in the finals five years out of the nine the league was active. Despite their lack of titles or championship wins, the team has made it to the playoffs nineteen times since joining the NBA.

After joining the NBA, the Indiana Pacers seemed to struggle some, winning four division titles, one conference title, and no championships. Despite their struggles, the team based out of Indianapolis is one of the best known in the league. This could be in part due to the infamous “Brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills” in which several players and even some fans participated in a fight with players from the opposing team, the Detroit Pistons. The fight resulted in several suspensions and even criminal charges being brought up against several of the players.

In 1999, the Conseco Fieldhouse replaced the Market Square Arena as the home of the Indiana Pacers. With seating for 18,345 people, the arena cost 183 million dollars to build. Ranked the number one arena in the NBA from 2005 to 2007, the Fieldhouse is considered by many to be one of the best venues in professional sports to watch a game. With their new state of the art see-through time clocks, wide concourses, and more than 100 concession stands, the Conseco Fieldhouse makes game day easier and more convenient.

Indiana Pacers games are more than just basketball. Entertainment at each game includes exciting performances by the beautiful and talented Pacemates dance team, along with the famous Boomer. Boomer is an energetic and entertaining cat that makes appearances not only at home games, but also at events around the area, country, and even the world. His skits delight everyone and he has made appearances with other famous people from both the sports and entertainment worlds.

The newest addition to the Pacers entertainment lineup is the High Octane Drumline. Created in the 2009-2010 season, the drumline is composed of some of the best drummers in the area and is expected to become a fan favorite.

In their community, the Indiana Pacers are quite active, participating in charities and events whenever possible to bring hope to the area’s underprivileged. The Pacers Foundation has helped to change the lives of thousands of children by donating to various charities fighting hunger, obesity, abuse, and other problems faced by today’s youth.

Programs such as the Pacers Youth Basketball, the Junior Dance Teams, and Boomer’s Bootcamp teach children about active, healthy lifestyles while keeping them busy and off the streets.

The Pacers have created and maintain quite a tradition of basketball in Indiana. Games are full of excitement and with the varied entertainment, nobody will feel left out.
